A major milestone has been reached for Australians living with arthritis and musculoskeletal conditions, with the Australian Government announcing a new $100 million Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF) Mission dedicated to arthritis and musculoskeletal health.
Nearly seven million Australians are affected by these conditions, including many people living with polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR) and giant cell arteritis (GCA). This landmark investment recognises the significant impact these diseases have on quality of life, healthcare costs, and workforce participation.
Members of our research group have been actively involved in the broader arthritis research and advocacy community that helped make this announcement possible. The funding will support future discoveries aimed at improving diagnosis, treatment and long-term outcomes for Australians living with musculoskeletal disease.
